The New York Rangers are breaking their own resale ticket market records after a pair of road victories against the Montreal Canadiens has them two wins away from a berth in the Stanley Cup Final.

Tickets for Game 3 at Madison Square Garden on May 22, the team’s first home playoff game in 11 days, were selling on Tuesday morning for an average of $601 (all figures US), up 58 per cent since the start of the series, according to online aggregator SeatGeek. It’s the most expensive non-Stanley Cup Final game that the company has seen since it began tracking in 2010, eclipsing a 2012 game also at MSG. Average face value for this round is $273, with tickets ranging from $145-$1,776.
The average resale price for Game 3 jumped 15 percent from $523 after the Rangers beat Montreal 3-1 on Monday. The cheapest tickets available Tuesday are listed at $320.

“New York fans have only been able to witness one of these last five wins in person, and there’s an enormous amount of pent-up demand to see the Blueshirts at home again and experience this playoff run at the Garden,” SeatGeek communications analyst Connor Gregoire said today in an e-mail. “It’s a combination of the fans’ desire to finally salute this team on home ice for what they’ve done over the past week and a half and their anticipation of a trip to the Stanley Cup Final.”

Should the Rangers win Game 3, setting up the possibility of clinching the team’s first Stanley Cup Final berth since 1994 on home ice, SeatGeak said it expects Game 4 ticket prices to surpass those for Game 3. Tickets for Game 4 on May 25 are currently selling for an average of $519, a 50 per cent jump from the start of the series.

The New York games are outpacing the games held in Montreal’s Bell Centre by more than two-to-one. Tickets for Game 1 sold for an average of $285 and Game 2 seats averaged $238, according to SeatGeek.

The previous high for a non-Stanley Cup Final game was Game 5 of the 2012 Eastern Conference final between the Rangers and New Jersey Devils ($461). The Devils won that series in six games, then fell to the Los Angeles Kings in the championship series.
